Hey Tyler, is there gonna be any sort of set schedule for the character videos, or will they just be an intermittent thing?

I’d like to try to post one per week, but it is likely going to just be whenever I get to them. I’ll give it my best shot, though.

Colbert’s time-slot replacement on Comedy Central is black, no? Strange that CC has become a burgeoning place for women and minorities to have their own shows.

This is so true. After years of not watching Comedy Central, Amy Schumer brought me back and now Broad City is a serious contender for funniest show on TV.

And yet, it is the network that gives Daniel Tosh a job. Is it like how factories can purchase offsets for the pollution they create?

Great episode, as always. Thank you for the discussion — I think I like when the two of your disagree with one another. It’s an actual debate instead of name calling and muckraking. Don’t get me wrong though, I love muckraking.

I really liked the point where David taught me to embrace watching terrible movies because, fuck it, we’re all going to die. I thought that I had wasted that two hours of my life watching K PAX, but it seems that, in reality, I have wasted every hour of my life, fighting valiantly in a battle I — or none of us — can ever win.

But, not to be THAT GUY, but I must point out an error you guys made on the show.

The new STAR WARS movie is NOT being directed by David E. Kelley. It’s being directed by Garry Shandling. I don’t want people to be confused!

Also, I was wondering if you guys would go ahead and recognize HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK as an American classic. Thanks!

Excellent discussion, guys. I agree with the previous poster that disagreement between you guys makes for a great podcast 🙂

Tyler said something to the effect of ” if the detectives were both women (or X minority) that would add another layer onto the story that perhaps the creator didn’t intend.” I find that statesmen to be both true and utterly depressing. It’s also the first and foremost reason why we need more women and minorities on TV. It’s a damn shame that two male characters can help the writer tell any story under the sun , while two female characters automatically means “this story is about women and their issues “. Further, any show with a primarily female cast or black cast or gay cast becomes a that girl show or that black show or that gay show, whereas a show with mostly white men can be a cop show or a lawyer show or whatever. The only way that attitude changes is when there are three shows, five shows with a mostly female cast so you have to actually think of other words to describe it.

Thought of this episode right away when I saw the headline that the Ghostbusters reboot will be all women. Will serve as an interesting case study of sorts to see how well it does at the box office. I don’t think anyone doubts that abilities of women/minorities to give great performances, but moreso whether the public at large are as interested.
