Fantasy Casting- Rushmore (1959)
It’s always fun taking a movie that is very much of its time and imagining it existing elsewhere. This goes doubly for those movies that are already heavily influenced by different eras of filmmaking. Wes Anderson’s Rushmore seems to just ooze French New Wave, yet remains undeniably American in its sensibilities. So I thought it would be interesting to place it in a time when American comedy was starting to take a melancholy turn, undoubtedly influenced by foreign artists. And, as director, I picked a foreign-born director known for taking traditional American genres and turning them on their heads.
Let’s see how it turns out, shall we?
