I’ve read about 15 reviews of The Big Sick so far, and it’s very strange that none of them has commented at all on Kumail Nanjiani’s acting performance. I know there are many more reviews out there, so I’m aware of the limited sample size (though many of these reviews are from major sites/publications). But do you have any insight into why this might be? Much commentary is given to Zoe Kazan, Holly Hunter and Ray Romano and their performances. Yet the lead guy, nothing. It feels like a slight. A very well-received romantic comedy with a brown guy in the lead — when has that happened before? — and nobody wants to talk about him. Everyone seems to love the movie so it’s bizarre that the central performance would receive so little attention in the reviews.
