Movie Recommendation- Mean Creek
Mean Creek (2004)
Nobody likes a bully. They make us feel small for their own amusement. They try to mask their own insecurities by putting others down. I’m sure, if given the opportunity, many of us would love to get our revenge on our tormentors; give them a taste of their own medicine. This is exactly the plan by a group of kids terrorized by a local bully in Mean Creek. An elaborate scheme is devised to trick and humiliate the bully. Unfortunately, the plan goes awry when they realize that he’s a just a person looking for acceptance, as we all are. Mean Creek is full of strong characters, each bringing his or her own baggage to the story. Strongest- perhaps by design- is that of George, the bully. Underneath this abusive, blustery thug, we find a sensitive, vulnerable child. This is not to imply that he is a positive character; far from it. None of the characters in Mean Creek are purely positive or negative. They just exist and try to do the best with what they’re given. A captivating film.
