Very excited about this podcast. After listening to your BP episode with Rob Cesternino, I’ve become re-obsessed with Survivor (I had seen maybe the first 5 seasons before, but I’ve been catching up over the summer and will be watching the season 27 finale tonight so I’m getting close). It’ll be fun to watch my first new season since probably season 5 this fall and have this podcast to listen to along the way (all of my friends are completely sick of me talking about Survivor this summer, so I need to get my Survivor conversation fix by listening to podcasts).

Scott, I’m thrilled that you’re such a big fan. It makes it easier to do the podcast to know that at least somebody will be listening (there tends to not be a lot of overlap between movie nerds and competitive reality show fans).

There are a few of us who overlap… now if only I could get David to do a Project Runway podcast.

You will be added to the Purple Rock and RHAP… unless I start losing my Survivor pool. Then you will be cut out of superstition. 🙂

This may be a stupid question, but where can I download this so I can listen on another device instead of in the browser?

Really excited to hear the show. I mostly just listen to Rob’s podcasts on Survivor but will be adding this one for sure. I’ll be writing about the show again this season for RHAP, so it will be fun to hear your thoughts!

Just out of curiosity, which three seasons have you not seen?

    • Battleship Pretension says:

      I think Jen hasn’t seen 4, 5, and 11.
      I haven’t seen 4, 10, and 11 (I’m working my way through 5 right now).

Marquesas has some cool moments that set up major shifts in the strategic thinking of the game. Although it doesn’t have a strong ending, it is definitely one to watch.

I am another in the “BP Fan” and “Survivor Fan” venn diagram overlap. I’m definitely excited for this podcast once the show starts. I’d like to request that when you reference past seasons to at least throw in a couple of names of the major characters as I think most of us don’t have the seasons or names of the locations memorized. I’m lost past Season 6.
I’d like to quibble with you a bit on Russel Hantz, though. I do agree that he was a good player and more importantly, kept the season very interesting, but you said that the ending of that season pissed you off? I assume because Hantz didn’t win? I’d like to argue that while being a good and entertaining player, he was also a “goat”, in that he was easily beatable in the final TC and that’s how he got to the end. When they were down to the Four of them plus Brett from Galu, and Brett won immediately, if Russel were an actual threat, they would have booted him there since his usefulness was over. Instead they got rid of Jaison, who had a much better shot at beating Natalie. Jaison even says this in the reunion show. You compared Hantz to Richard Hatch, and in a lot of ways that’s true. They were both playing harder than anyone else and they both were good at manipulating the others. The difference is in attitude, though. We think of Hatch as a villain because of the bitchy things he said privately to the camera about the other players, but they all liked him. Hantz was hated by nearly everyone, because he didn’t say insults privately like Hatch did, he said it to everyone’s faces. In short (heh), he turned out to be an excellent flawless player, but only if his goal was runner up.

I also overlap in the BP, Survivor (Project Runway too) Venn Diagram overlap.

Enjoyed the first episode. Jenny sounds great on the mic, and I’m sure she’ll get the little things down quickly. (Addressing the audience, for example.)

Been a fan since the first season, but experienced some fatigue after All-Stars. Never got through Guatemala, and skipped Palau entirely when it aired. The ‘twist’ of Cook Islands brought me back in, and I’ve been watching it weekly since.

I’m currently using the off-seasons to do a complete re-watch. Just got through Africa, which was better than I remembered.

Wish I knew you were at The Roast. As a BP fan living in Toronto, it would have been a great opportunity to say hello.
