15. Schindler’s List (1993)
directed by Steven Spielberg
There are more films about the holocaust than there are podcasts about movies on iTunes. So what makes Schindler’s List the big one? Spielberg’s story and storytelling hew to conventional standards, telling the almost happy tale of a regular man who was a hero to many. This eases us in and, unlike any other movie on the subject, allows us to really get our mind around the whole thing at once. Spielberg is like the inspiring high school teacher who instructs and nurtures at the same time.
