84. Werckmeister Harmonies (2000)
directed by Bela Tarr
In a small town, an ominous terror looms large over its inhabitants. Everybody is sure that something is coming; something that will destroy the town and everyone in it. So resigned are the townsfolk to what they’re sure is their fate, they walk around in a kind of daze. This surreal tone permeates the film, creating a meditative dreamworld backed by a hauntingly beautiful score. Werckmeister Harmonies is a film that one won’t soon forget.
