When we watch The Philadelphia Story, we want Tracy Lord to end up with Jimmy Stewart’s character. It’s okay to admit that. She doesn’t, of course. She goes back to her suave but selfish ex-husband because she’s been conditioned by high society and a philandering father to only expect certain things of herself. In real life, people disappoint you and you love them anyway. It’s that way with Tracy.
