Generally, the femme fatale in a noir film is a woman of questionable virtue, someone aligned with gangsters or other seedy doings. Phyllis Dietrichson, on the other hand, is a housewife. She’s also the greatest femme fatale of all time. There are no societal excuses for her behavior. She is simply rotten to the core and gorgeous on the outside.
