there is “Who Dun It”s, where the audience doesn’t know who the murderer is, and then there are “Hal Ketchum”s – where the audience know who the murderer is, but we watch to see “How will [the police?] catch’em?”
Columbo is famously a Hal Ketchum series, whereas other shows like Murder She Wrote or Matlock are WhoDunIts.
Knives Out manages to be BOTH. I loved it. and i liked how deftly the politics (which i was warned would be in there) are woven in. Obvious, but not too preachy (obviously, opinions may vary, depending on which character’s POV you feel is representative/indicting of your own).
