I thought McKenzie gave a significantly less restrained performance in “Last Night in Soho” than in “Leave No Trace”, but she does generally tend toward being quiet.
Anthony Hopkins had a supporting role in “Silence of the Lambs”, but he won lead actor anyway. And I know many people objected to Cate Blanchett being nominated as the lead of “Carol” despite being the title character, since Rooney Mara was the real lead.
Yeah, I know category switches happen but I’m just saying, having seen Nightmare Alley, Blanchett’s role doesn’t seem like one of these. I hope I’m wrong, though.
