The story on The Snyder Cut aspect ratio was that it was composed at 1.43:1 for the IMAX release so that it would have that consistent aspect ratio in those theaters without doing the “change the ratio for action scenes” thing that Christopher Nolan does. The plan was to then crop it on the top and bottom to 1.85:1 for conventional theaters (which is what it was in 2017). So the aspect ratio in the HBO Max presentation has additional information at the top and bottom rather than information removed from the sides (there are youtube comparisons showing as such if you’re interested).
