two other things:
1) for that upcoming episode on logical inconsistencies, I have a friend that picks up on these. One that he has pointed out, that I can’t shake, is in The Dark Knight Rises: Bane has just robbed the stock market (?) and is getting away through a tunnel on motorcycles, closely pursued by the cops. The lights in the tunnel start to go out, and we know it’s BatBale. Cut to a cop who grins and tells The Rookie “Boy, you’re in for a show tonight.” What he should have said was: “Hey, that’s the guy that murdered the city’s DA!” given the events of the last movie. And that, my friends, is why The Dark Knight Rises is not a good movie.
2) Twin Peaks has been so great. I hope Fadem doesn’t get in trouble for giving Dougie Tony’s coffee. I was not expecting much for the show, but in many ways, it feels like David Lynch’s magnum opus. You got a little bit of everything here: Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, (maybe no Dune?). There’s even a good bit of Inland Empire in some of the more experimental shots (scary scene in Episode 1, falling scene in Episode 3) that have been some of my favorite parts of the series so far.
Not a big fan of Pirates 2 and 3 but like Tyler I sorta want to give them second chance. My biggest issue with On Stranger Tides is that the book it is based on is pretty good and it just gets shit on by shoehorning an ever more obnoxious Johnny Depp into the movie.
Well now I’m up half the night worrying about The Big One, and I don’t mean Kirstie Alley’s ex husband. Thanks a lot, David.
The big one? That could be anything.
David, you’ve made me so happy. I’ve been defending Pirates 2 and 3 for years. There is so much fun mythology and world building in those movies (the compass, how people know which ships are the fastest, the beating heart in a chest, I could go on), and so many great characters beyond just Jack Sparrow (who, dislike for Johnny Depp aside, really is his best cinematic creation and is just an iconic performance).
