Dug the show, guys. Not a huge Tony Scott fan other than appreciating him as an auteur.
Have to go back and watch Man on Fire as it has been YEARS since I watched it. That said, David, my memory tells me the tone was B movie-ish or pulpish, so the flowery dialogue was not a problem, especially when you have people like Denzel and Christopher Walken delivering the lines. I remember Walken saying that “A man can be an artist….food, whatever…Creasy’s art is death. He’s about to paint his masterpiece.”
Wow! I remember him doing a bit of business while he said the lines. Eating a cake(?)and licking his fingers. Textbook on how to sell a line by doing a bit of business and treating it with utter seriousness.
This episode inspired me to add “Man on Fire,” “Deja Vu” and “Spy Game” to my Netflix queue. And I may have to re-evaluate “Crimson Tide” and “Enemy of the State.”
Hey guys, just a really random note: the horses in True Romance (that are born black but turn white as they age) were not invented by Tarantino, they’re a real thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipizzan
I feel a bit weird sending you info about random stuff of slovenian descent again (I was the listener who sent you the email about how to pronounce Željko Ivanek’s name a while ago) but there you go. Doesn’t make True Romance any less awesome, fortunately.
Here is the supplemental post I mention at the end of the show:

And, just because it never stops making me laugh, here’s Saturday Night Live’s parody of the UNSTOPPABLE trailer:

Of all the things Tyler has ever said on the podcast “Oh, she’s in the frame!” is my favorite ever.

I also really liked comparing the Ridley/Tony difference to the difference between Miramax/Dimension, it makes so much sense it’s ridiculous.

Love the podcast!
I was thinking of Crimson Tide in the comment above but can’t edit now. Sorry!
