Oh my soul. I’ll have to mentally prepare for this.

  2. Philip says:

Josh is the Jean-Ralphio of Battleship Pretension.

  3. Ryan says:

I had to turn off last year’s Summer Preview because of Josh’s incessant screaming, but this time he was a lot better. Still very manic and high energy, but also actually engaged with the topic (unlike last time). Even though I disagree with most of his opinions, I thought this was an entertaining listen.

I’m at the 55-minute mark and it sounds like someone’s starting to need a juice box or a nap. But I’ll push through. Thanks for the heads-up.

P.S. I, too, gave up part-way through last year. The only time I’ve bailed on BP.

  4. Joseph says:

You’re all crazy. Josh is the best guest. Wish they had him on more.

  5. A World of Film says:

It’s a shame that you didn’t talk so much about Love and Mercy, that’s one I’m really looking forward to. Maybe it’s more because I’m a huge fan of its story, but luckily the film itself looks quite good too.

    Great episode.

Josh’s annual episode is always a winner in my books … mainly because I have a very similar outlook as his when it comes to blockbusters. Long may his ranting reign.

I think Fadem’s viewpoint (which I actually agree with to a large extent) is a factor why his summer movie episodes are rough for me to get through.

For example, for their Tom Cruise episode David and Tyler brought in Amy Nicholson who loves Cruise as an actor and literally wrote the book on him. Imagine if their guest had been someone who saw “A Few Good Men” and “Top Gun” back in 1998, didn’t like them and now doesn’t like Cruise. Further imagine that this hypothetical guest spends the bulk of the episode being dismissive of all of Cruise’s work. Why would you have this person on to discus Tom Cruise? Short answer: you probably wouldn’t. Therefore, I’m not sure why you have Josh Fadem on to discus summer movies when much of the time he’s being negative about them.

On the other hand, it’s damned ungracious to complain about free entertainment, so I’m going to knock it off and look forward to the next episode.

  7. Jared says:

David’s Max Furry Road pun deserved a WAY better reaction.

  8. Travis says:

Always love the episodes with Josh.

I know it’s asking a lot to get more nuanced/informed opinions on some of these movies, but this is the second time y’all have had surface-level trashing of Jurassic World.

It’s not raptor squad vs mutant dino. The latest trailer actually shows one of Pratt’s raptors attacking a human, so there is still a lot we don’t know about how they’re utilized.

I actually really like that they are treating the raptors like any other animal, rather than bloodthirsty predators always looking to kill something. It’s refreshing to see animals treated like animals and not just as scary antagonists bent on eating humans. The raptors aren’t “tamed”–Pratt is a behavioralist who has been working with the raptors for years to try and control their aggression so they can be in a public exhibit.

Dogs weren’t always dogs–they were once wolves. Plenty of wolves form relationships with humans and can be “trained”, but it doesn’t mean they’re not dangerous.

The genetically modified dino is more of a natural extension of the sci-fi ideas of the book and the original vs the two sequels. Wu, in the books, wanted to modify the dinosaurs to make them more entertaining to the audience and to better fit their expectations.

Sorry for the long post–it is just disparaging to hear two people use misunderstood or inaccurate info to trash a movie that, from interviews and on-set reports, has had a lot of care put into it.

It could still be extremely awful, of course.

    • Battleship Pretension says:

If you have a movie based on a true story that has something really stupid and coincidental happen in it, the fact that it’s based on truth isn’t enough on its own to make up for the stupidity of the occurrence. So I hear what you’re saying on all these counts but that background doesn’t make it look any less dumb.

      – David

  9. Ryan says:

The shot of Pratt on the motorcycle and the raptors by his side looks like an episode of Superfriends. Bad, bad bad. The only way I’ll forgive it is if these clever girls are pulling some long con and just waiting for an opportunity to strike.

  10. Ari says:

I just wanted to chime in and say that I love the episodes with Josh. He’s the greatest.

  11. Steve C. says:

Like the “Mind of Mencia”, Josh says what I’m thinking! Jurassic Pa—BOOOOORING
