I’ve been listening to Hurdy Gurdy Man for more than forty years. It’s always been terrifying.
I looked up this Evan Sayet guy because as a liberal, I’m always curious to find smart conservatives. I was to disagree with most of what this guy has to say, but more than anything I was appalled Tyler thinks he’s funny. Maybe I didn’t find the right clips, but he sounds like an unfunny a-hole to me.
Yeah, most of the stuff online are political speeches. In those, Sayet mentions that he used to write for Bill Maher and was a comedian himself, which fascinated me. So when this free taping was announced, I thought I’d go out of curiosity, because I had a feeling that the stand-up would be mediocre, but the audience would be very accommodating. To my surprise, his actual stand-up was pretty solid. His cadence was very 1980s, but that’s not a complaint for me. Lots of wordplay and some really well-developed bits that I was surprised to find myself laughing out loud at. The taping was supposed to lead to a DVD/digital release, but that hasn’t materialized yet (at least as far as I know).
Incidentally, it was at that taping that I first saw Sayet’s opener, Adam Yenser, whom I have since had on More Than One Lesson (yes, I know this was a shameless plug; sue me).

That Conan clip was actually pretty good. I will definitely listen to this MTOL episode.
