What do y’all think of Ken Burns? I recently finished his Vietnam War doc and I was struck by how journalistic it felt. Personally, I think he’s at the top of the field of documentarians. His method of blending eyewitness accounts with archival stills and footage is masterful. Lynn Novick, his co-director on a lot of films, deserves a lot of credit as well.
Yeah, I like Ken Burns for his ability to find all the smaller narratives in the larger ones and pinpoint what’s so human and emotional about them. There are like a half dozen parts of the National Parks documentary that could easy be the basis for films of their own.
