Jane Campion didn’t direct every episode of the first Top of the Lake miniseries, Garth Davis also directed some. The later two seasons of True Detective also had multiple directors. Of course, we still consider anthology films with multiple directors to be films rather than miniseries though. I am of the mind that if a work is structured to consist of episodes of TV length, then it’s a miniseries. The third season of Twin Peaks wound up on that French critics list because the list technically didn’t require a work to be a movie, the critics had just always voted for movies before (I would say that Fire Walk With Me is still a movie, even though it can’t really be understood without having watched the show).
