My memory of watching Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: a scene starts, I’m confused but gradually I piece things together. Then just as I’ve understood what that particular scene is about, we cut to the next scene and that same process unfolds again. And again. And again. Great film.
I agree Spy Who Came in From the Cold is the best adaptation (at least that I’ve seen).
Le Carre’s son wrote this article about his mother’s role in Le Carre’s work:
Olivia Colman’s character in the original novel (which I haven’t read) was actually a man rather than a pregnant woman. The ending was also more cynical.
I like the pregnant lady spy but I probably would have preferred the more cynical ending.
