Biggest surprise was not seeing Judas and the Black Messiah in David’s Top 5.

Thanks so much for mentioning The White Tiger. I loved it and also find it weird that it didn’t get more attention. The filmmaking is so strong, it’s one of the most watchable movies I can think of in recent memory. I found myself really invested in the emotional stakes and the lead performances are incredible. My only complaint is that it seemed to end a little quickly and glibly once we caught up to present day, it’s one of the very rare movies where I would have actually wanted another 10 minutes or so.

I think that glibness works. It’s part of the movie’s commitment to telling things from the protagonist’s point of view, insisting he won even when it’s clear he’s lost so much of himself.
