Regarding your discussion of the Ana De Armas Yesterday lawsuit: 99% of the time when footage gets into trailers that isn’t in the final film it’s not out of some intentional attempt to deceive, it’s because the trailer is made and released before the final cut of a movie has been set. In the case of “Yesterday” the decision to omit De Armas was a last-minute choice based on test screenings long after the trailer had been released. Some sort of “fairness in trailers” law or rule would tie filmmakers’ hands when it comes to omitting scenes that hurt their movies just because the advertising department made a mistake and would decidedly not be good for art.
Okay, my new rule is we just ban trailers, then.
