It’s been some time since I watched this, but I recall enjoying it. It was a thoroughly cynical take on the usual story of heroic detectives vs dastardly criminal, what Crooked Timber would classify under “The Unsung Romance of Incompetence”:

There was no victory for the detectives here, “hollow” or otherwise.
