Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” the pilot episode of the short-lived anthology TV series Freddy’s Nightmares. Focusing on the origin of Freddy Krueger, this tale starts when Krueger gets off all charges of child murdering on a technicality and features the famous scene of the parents murdering Freddy Krueger in the boiler room. Featuring plenty of moody lighting, this episode is directed by Tobe Hooper of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre fame. Scares are to be had despite limits on blood due to this being a syndicated TV show at the time.
Mat was bored with the new TV special Michael Jackson’s Halloween. Looking like a CG TV show out of the late 1990s, Michael Jackson’s Halloween has Michael Jackson’s chimp Bubbles (Brad Garrett) delivering two kids to an impromptu haunted house. After entering, they are whisked into an alternate dimension where they must strike down the evil witch Conformity (Lucy Liu). While there are a number of musical numbers from Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5, they are cut down to a minute apiece with very abbreviated dance sequences. This is not as fun as it sounds.
Thrasher caught up with a rare Ed Wood feature The Revenge of Dr. X. He found it worth the hunt.
