73. Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972)

directed by Werner Herzog
Aguirre is the story of Spanish conquistadors going crazy in the Amazon. But it could just as easily be a story about making a movie with Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski. The deeper these soldiers go into their expedition, the more they lose sight of their goals and their very humanity. If half the stories about Kinski are true, you have to wonder how much acting he’s really doing as the increasingly psychopathic but determined leader of the title.
