The original Insomnia is so much better. The ending is way better than Insomnia’s Hollywood ending. Also, he does shot his partner.

  2. It’s been a long while since I’ve seen the Norwegian version of INSOMNIA, but I do remember liking it more than the Nolan version. I remember really loving the complexity of Stellan Skarsgård’s “hero” – who is really himself a bad person, whereas Pacino’s portrayal is much more straight-forward.

I think I more enjoy seeing somebody as they’re in the process of becoming bad more than somebody that is simply corrupted. Pacino is hardly a saint. He lies, fakes evidence, and colludes with a murderer, all to save his own skin. He may have started with good motivations, but they have long since been abandoned in the service of self preservation.
