I think of Van Sant’s Psycho as more of a fascinating experiment than it’s own film. It isn’t a shot-for-shot remake either, by the way. I hate it when people call it that, because even apart from the opening shot, the inserts of animals being killed, and the fact that it was shot on color, there are differences.

Funny to me that David mentioned The Brown Bunny as an ambitious failure as that film has a pretty fixed place on the list of my top ten movies of all time. Maybe it requires you to leave your opinions about Vincent Gallo at the door which admittedly can be pretty hard when his presence is all over the film. But I think it’s a beautiful (and yes, sometimes ugly) piece of art that makes me cry pretty much nonstop for the last 30 minutes.
