With J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom being released, Tyler thought it would be fun to take a look back at Colin Trevorrow’s 2015 film. In this 20-minute video essay, Tyler explores the film’s meta commentary and winking references, suggesting that there may be more lurking underneath the surface.
Hanging a lampshade on the sequelitis of Jurassic World doesn’t make it any better of a film. I’m unsure why this one was so commercially successful compared to other attempts to revive an old IP. John Williams’ theme is still as good as ever, but that’s not really enough to hang an entire blockbuster on.
