Kurt Russell in at number 14? Not in my top 100.
I honestly have no idea how so many people rated him so highly. He’s a fine actor and such, but, seriously…
You guys have been praising him a lot recently, so it could be some kind of recency bias.
Not terribly surprised. He has incredibly high geek cred
Gene Hackman didn’t make the Top 10? I’m very surprised.
Hackman was my #1, wish he would’ve been at least in the top 10, but glad he’s there.
Russell has been in so many geek movies that I’m not really surprised he’s shown up here. I’ve gained a lot more respect for him recently with Death Proof and Hateful Eight, but it seems like most actors to pretty good work with QT.
I love Gene Hackman, and glad he god enough votes, although he just missed making my cut being my #6. I like Kurt Russell, but I don’t think he belongs here. He’s got some gaps in his filmography where his choices haven’t been so good. He is perhaps a few places above Schwarzenegger.
The concept of “perfectly adequate” was invented to describe Kurt Russell. That he beat Pacino, Duvall, Washington, Sellers, and Oldman is basically a hate crime.
As someone who put Kurt Russell number one, I am genuinely shocked by his appearance. His work rings with a workman like professionalism a la a Bogart or John Wayne, and his recent surge of near career best work just reminded me how damn good he is. That being said, everyone calm down. It’s not a hate crime, it’s not a travesty. It’s a fun internet list.
Thank you Battleship Pretension and God Bless Kurt Russell!
Russell so high is just baffling. Honestly, I like him. He’s a good prescence but he wouldn’t make my Top 100. My top 5 I submitted was 1. Charlie Chaplin, 2. Humphrey Bogart, 3. Philip Seymour Hoffman, 4. Burt Lancaster, 5. Cary Grant and Lancaster aside they’ve all ranked highly so I’m glad I’m somewhat in touch for a change.
I’d also say that these lists are only ever terribly fun when they throw up surprises, so Kurt trouncing Pacino and Hoffman may be controversial…but it makes the eventual discussion of the list much more interesting.
