Great guest. I found him really engaging. I have to say, I disagree on the Milo stuff, though. He wasn’t merely sharing his own experiences. He pretty plainly said in no uncertain terms that the age of consent should be lowered to 13. He also wasn’t “shut down” by the left, as Tyler said. It was a right wing group that we’ve after him, a right wing group that disinvited him, and a right wing website that fired him. Milo also rose to fame in part because he told the right what they wanted to hear about homosexuality. He regularly bashed himself and other gays as sick and sinful and depraved. Of course the far right ate that up. So if Nick Flanagan is right and homophobia played any part in his demise , well then that’s just a little bit if sweet justice.
I wasn’t super clear here, unfortunately. When I say that liberals “shut down” Milo, I only meant on college campuses and such. Sorry for the confusion.

I think Milo later said he was just making light of his own experience rather than actually advocating anything, which doesn’t seem entirely credible and lowers my estimation of him.
He verbatim said that he knew his viewpoint was controversial and that the age of consent should be lowered. The videos are still free to view, you can see and hear for yourself. Any dissembling that came later was just typical Milo B.S. My estimation of him didn’t go any lower, however, as it was already rock bottom. As a gay man myself, I find other gay men who make a living trashing homosexuality to be the lowest of the low.
I am a regular listener of the podcast where Milo made the aledged comments, The Drunken Peasents. When all this stuff went down the hosts were enraged by how Milo was taken out of context. The discussion they were having was in regards to consent on college campuses, and how sexual consent is a complicated thing. The host of the show TJ Kirk (aka “The Amazing Atheist” on YouTube) was particularly incensed that whoever edited the video in question omitted the part where Milo said the age of consent is fine as it is. They also mentioned that Milo had several glasses of wine at that point.
Even with that it is not difficult to see how a his sexual identity, plus his Catholic faith, plus being raped by a Catholic priest at 14, has resulted in the personality he has today. The man is a self-identified provocateur. If you are shocked by anything he has to say that means he is doing the job he set out to do. If that seems apologetic it is because I know of several people of whom he has been very good to. One of these people are the filminist documentary filmmaker Cassie Jaye. She set out to make a documentary on the Men’s Rights movement, “The Red Pill”. Cassie Jaye found that much of her preconceptions about the Men’s Rights movement was not true and made that the topic of the film. As a result she found herself on the receiving end of a torrent of hate and slander by feminists. Milo, no doubt seeing a common enemy, was one of the few people who provided Cassie Jaye’s promotion for her crowdfunding campaign.
I cringe at posting something critical but I kinda found this guest insufferable. Out of the 300 or so I’ve heard, maybe the only episode I just didn’t feel like finishing.
It happens sometimes. Not every guest is going to be for every person. I would encourage you to finish the episode, though. There’s some good stuff there at the end.
Probably just me being oversensitive. It had nothing to do with politics. He tended to bounce around free-association style, not going with the flow that I felt T and D were laying down, sometimes obliviously cutting them off mid-story. I’m sure they weren’t offended or anything but I was just like, dude, settle down. Maybe he was just excited to be there, which is fine. Just my feeling, obviously not shared by everyone.
