Your complaint about documentaries is actually how I felt just recently watching the second season of (the entirely scripted mockumentary series) American Vandal. There’s a pretense of the audience discovering things along with the supposed documentarians, but there’s lots of evidence revealed later in the series than characters in that world would have known about it.
