When I think about The Bridges of Madison County, my mind always returns to Meryl Streep in that climactic scene. Rewatched the film a couple of week ago, and now the shot of Clint Eastwood standing in the pouring rain hit me like a ton of bricks. Even if that scene is by no means a quintessential representation of Eastwood’s thing, that shot somehow felt like a culmination of his entire career. The face of an aging icon expressing without words a lifetime worth of longing. Just incredibly powerful.
