I like Viola Davis but she’s not done enough on film to be in the top 25.
Glad Dench isn’t higher. Like Winslet and other Brits, people confuse a posh voice with good acting. Anyone English who has done vaguely Shakespearean work gets lauded in this country and we often ignore our own theater actors-turned movie stars.

I disagree on Judi Dench. I think she’s a marvelous actress, particularly in NOTES ON A SCANDAL.

I have to disagree (with Darby) about Viola Davis. Her three theatrical roles in 2002 alone both introduced her to me and cemented her into my top spots. She hasn’t wavered since. I think quality of work can override body of work, and she’s the best example.
