I don’t think you can determine that the girlfriend is a revolutionary “because” of Pavel. The mother blames Pavel’s friends for getting him into revolutionary activity, so it could be the other way around. And the mother doesn’t become any sort of “New Soviet Women” with a job rather than domestic responsibilities. She’s still defined by her relationship to the men of her family, and she just gets martyred rather than doing anything concrete.
