In “I Was a Teenage Wereskunk,” during the scene at the Greazy Cheetah, the beatnik bar where young Curtis meets Charles Manson, director Neal McLaughlin was originally featured prominently as a Bob Dylanesque folk musician performing on stage, complete with acoustic guitar and harmonica. Ultimately it was decided that the tone wasn’t right–also, Mr. McLaughlin was way too handsome and it was distracting from the scene’s intentions–so they edited around him, using only the angles where he couldn’t be seen in the background.
